It Happened One Summer....

Since our family has had quite a bit of excitement the past 6 months, I decided to start a blog to capture the events and happenings of our family.

The summer of 2010 was, well how do you describe it.....definitely eventful!

To begin with in May Brad decided to take an assignment with a Chinese company, Huawei, located in Shenzhen, China as the advisor to the Head of Human Resources. After finally figuring we were settling down to the peaceful life in our Connecticut home, it was time once again to put the house up for sale and begin the moving process.

Shortly thereafter I left my job at William Pitt Sothebys International Realty after a wonderful 4 years supporting the agents of the Danbury office.  My associates were not only my co-workers, but I considered them dear, close friends. I will never forget my time there and will cherish those friendships for years to come.

Four weeks later, our son David who was serving an LDS mission in Taichung, Taiwan, arrived safely back home. Mom was very happy and couldn't contain herself....I think I hugged and kissed that boy nonstop the first few days he was home....yes...he came home and what a happy crew we were. I enjoyed every minute of having him with us for the short six weeks he was home....then it was off to BYU-Idaho to start the next chapter of his life. Why do kids have to grow up so fast???

Two weeks later our daughter, Ashley was married to Justin Casperson in the LDS Bountiful Temple in Utah. What a glorious day to spend with our daughter and new son-in-law...it was perfect. The wedding reception was held at the Eldredge Manor in Bountiful and it was wonderful to visit with family and friends. We couldn't have picked a better person for our daughter! We love Justin and the entire Casperson clan...so glad they are now a part of our family!

One week later I was on a plane to Shenzhen, China where I spent a week (and I mean a HOT week) finding housing. Returning home 5 days later, it was now time to plan the Connecticut reception for Ashley and Justin and prepare for the big move.

We held the Connecticut reception at our good friends home, David and Deli Booth in Ridgefield and I cannot thank them enough for their generous offer in allowing us the use of their beautiful property. It was another perfect evening.....and a final farewell for me as the movers came just four days later. Thank you my wonderful, beautiful, awesome friends for being there for me and supporting me. I couldn't have done it without you.

August 14th arrived and Brian and I were on our way...thank you Cathay Pacific for comfortable seats and a huge entertainment selection...it almost didn't feel like a 16 hour nonstop flight....I said "almost".!

We've now been here in Shenzhen for two months....we live in the SHEKOU part of Shenzhen...thus the title of this blog--Echoes from Shekou! We are living right on Shenzhen Bay and overlook the new territories of Hong Kong. It has been an eventful two months....new school for Brian, new church branch, new food, new transportation, and a new language. We look forward to many happy memories as we live in this exciting part of the world.
